This week was very good in terms of missionary work, Elder Grisham and
I saw many miracles. Here's some of our miracles: This week Bennett
Valley Elders met a guy called Francisco near the church building on
Yulupa Street. He was given a tour of the building by them and some
sisters that were there as well, one of them who spoke spanish (which
was good, so that he could understand everything right) and they set
an appointment for the next day in the building and gave us the
referral. So we went to the appointment the next day and he didn't
come. So we went to work in the area. No more than 20 minutes later we
saw a man on the street and went to contact him, and to our surprise
he was Francisco! He may or may not have been a little (lot) drunk,
but we made an appointment to return the next day in the morning to
leave him with a blessing. We went then but he wasn't home, we called
him and his phone went straight to voicemail. But not long afterwards
he returned the call and set an appointment for later and he seemed to
be in his own mind. Well, we went by that night and left him with a
harvest blessing. We invite him to be baptized and he said yes! So
then we explained Sacrament Meeting with the pamphlet and invited
him to come. And we set the next appointment for Sunday afternoon.
That's not all, but I'm going to leave this story for now and continue
later in my letter so I can explain other miracles.
So, we also visited a former investigator, Dhalia, this week to see
how she was doing and everything. Well, when we knocked the door she
let us in right away and seemed worthwhile to teach her again. So we
invited her to read the Book of Mormon (she has listened to it on CD
all the way through, but only has read a little) and come to sacrament
meeting.
Now continuing the story of the two on Sunday. As we were about to
start the Gospel Principles class our phone went off with messages
from Dhalia, but they said "no content" so we asked her to send the
messages again. We were thinking she was telling us that she couldn't
come to church that day. But to our surprise it was to tell us that
she was ready to go and was just waiting for a member to pick her up
and she wasn't coming. While we were trying to find her a ride she
sent us a message and saying the member came! And later in Sacrament
meeting at the beginning, we sent a message to remind Francisco, and
called him, but went straight to his voicemail again. Well, we thought
we had done everything we could at the time, so we sat down in the
chapel with Dhalia. Again, at the beginning of the meeting, our phone
rang! This time Francisco was calling us! He was in his car, searching
for the building! We gave directions to get there, met him at the
door, and sat with him in the Sacrament Meeting. Then that night we
had a lesson with him where we set a baptismal date with him on August
23! He's seperated from his family and very sad about it. He misses
his children and recognizes that he needs to change. He said that
since the Sacrament meeting he has felt better than before, he feels
more clear minded. It is a complete miracle that we found him and
everything!
We also had a fun zone finding activity this week! Each district
picked a separate place and we each set up a table to hand out free
lemonade. We wrote inspiring messages on the cups and also handed out
cards when we could with our number on them. The six of us in our
district handed out 61 cups of lemonade in an hour and a half! Here's
a picture of our district right as we were finishing up!
